Salsa flows from Mount Etna
How did Nova bring some NYC urbanity to Sicily? By bringing her flaming red ipod with her and dancing salsa solo during the early morning hours in an orange grove with Mount Etna in the sky line. Mount Etna! If you erupted during my visit and it’s my time, then entomb me in a really cool salsa pose so I become a new statue of Pompeii, urban odyssey style. Sure I’m able to appreciate the old World pantheon that is part of Etna’s history, but given how everything’s connected, I can also bring some New World flavor and pay homage to the drums, fire and rumbling of Chango and his lineage. Being in the isolated wilderness that exists outside of our city cage, I’m reminded of the pulse that our city emits. You might forget it when you’re there, but step out and the silence will remind you of its absence. I take being out of the city as one big meditation exercise, with Ithaca in the distance calling you back. Do you feel the call of the city when you step out?
Here’s to you, Michael. Shake your body down to the ground…

I am glad your contribution to the Pompeii statue collection didn’t happen. I feel the contrast of being out of the city daily as I commute and spend weekends away from the pulse, and let’s not forget the smells, emitted by the big city . I was born, raised and re-born again in a big city and I think that’s why I appreciate so much and frequently what escapes from what it offers contribute to my, although questioned by some, sanity. The picture you have selected for this post captures this sentiment quite acurately. I can almost smell the grass (or whatever the yellow crap is)and feel it’s coarse texture brushing against my skin. The clouds add a bit of peaceful harmony to the dramatic mountain. I will have this capture on my mind when I am gazing at Mount Chocoroua http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Chocorua later this summer. On a more practial note, judging from your prior post, I am guessing that most of the green stuff seen in this picture can be combined with galic, wine, cheese or sugar and spices to made some heavenly dish that would throw your taste buds into tailspinning all culinary orgy. Just saying this makes me want to a order sicilian slice topped with everything but the kitchen sink.
thanks for sharing JPLogan. You have a nice balance of serenity and urban craziness. yes, wouldn’t be surprised if everything growing on the roadside in that shot is edible. it looked like wheat. if it isn’t edible, I’m sure the natives would find a way to make it delicious.
